Influenced by my own fear of the dark, you will be taken from a state of peace to a moment of creepiness. Are burglars trying to break in? Maybe someone forgot their keys? Either way, they won't be around for long because they never get in.
Ideas of what to do for more creepiness? No speaking noises please. I want it to be like a nightmare where no one has the ability to talk.
Should I make it more calming at the beginning?
What noises make you terrified?
Experiment with dynamic range more, have sudden loud noises.
ReplyDeleteI feel as though I am in some barn or field in the middle of nowhere. I have no idea what that extremely loud sound is, but it is quite terrifying and really grasps my attention.
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed with how scary you were able to make this piece without using words or human sounds. I definitely got a sense of terror.
ReplyDeleteThis piece is interesting because although I do not necessarily know what the situation is, I understand the feeling you are trying to get at. I wonder if I had listened to your piece before I read your statement it would have been as easy for me to get at the feeling you were trying to instill in the listener. I think that the sounds you included were well chosen and well recorded and really helped to carry the piece. The variety in pacing and texture of sounds makes it interesting as well as gives the piece a momentum. The abrupt ending to the object that is trying to be opened and the continued noise of the open space or open air is a nice contrast. I think there is a narrative in the piece but it's a little ambiguous. Although I enjoy the fact that the listener can make their own story I would like to know where you would take it if you were to pursue developing this piece further.
ReplyDeleteImmediately after hearing this I picture someone trying to break in. I think you did a very nice job at trying to convey the fear in someone just by using sound. These sounds are recognizable but put together make you paint this whole picture in your mind of someone trying to break and enter your home.
ReplyDeleteThese sounds are interesting to me because I was unable to identify any of them. I was hooked, to try to figure them out. I did not get the sense of terror, but I was not disappointed- The unique sounds carried it. What sounds are these? Where did you record?
ReplyDeleteWow - you did a great job with this piece making the beginning feel really creepy. All the creaking noises and haphazard shuffling around really makes it feel like the person making all those noises shouldn't be there. You've set the mood very nicely in this piece.
ReplyDeleteI think you did a great job! I like that the "break in noises" get louder. I really do get the feeling that someone is trying to get in. I think this was very successful
